About this tool

Lorem ipsum is placeholder text used by designers and developers to fill a layout before the real content exists. Because the words look like Latin but mean nothing, the eye judges the typography and spacing rather than reading the message.

The text is assembled from a word list in the style of the classic passage. Sentences have 6 to 16 words, paragraphs have 3 to 7 sentences, and no word repeats twice in a row. Each press of Generate gives different text.

The classic opening, Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, is optional. Everything is produced in your browser, and you can generate up to 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences or 5,000 words at once.

Frequently asked questions

What does lorem ipsum mean?

Nothing in particular. The text descends from a scrambled passage of a work by Cicero, altered so that it does not read as meaningful Latin. Its purpose is to look like text without being readable.

Why use placeholder text instead of real copy?

Real copy draws attention to the message. Placeholder text lets reviewers evaluate layout, typography and length without being distracted. It should be replaced with real content before launch.

Is the text different each time?

Yes, apart from the optional classic opening. Press Generate again for another passage.

Can I get HTML?

Yes. In paragraph mode, Wrap in <p> tags puts each paragraph in its own element, one per line.

Is there a limit?
